John Augustine has had a long and distinguished career as a specialist in general internal medicine in Thunder Bay. An Honorary President of the Thunder Bay Art Gallery and the City’s Historical Museum Society, Dr. Augustine was one of NOSM’s earliest friends and strongest proponents. In 1995, he was one of 25 Thunder Bay residents to receive a Silver Achievement Award on the 25th anniversary of the founding of the City of Thunder Bay. He has served eight years on the Governing Council of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Ottawa), and two years as Vice President. He was Founding Chair (1969-1973) of the Northern Ontario Medical Program (NOMP). Dr. Augustine also served as Chair of Lakehead University’s committee to develop a new northern medical school.
